Competition editorial piece for The Lancet Infectious Diseases 2020 magazine cover. The editorial was about the Loa Loa parasite and the controlled dispensing of ivermectin (an anti-parasitic drug) given to the population without the risk of adverse side effects. An app was developed to determine whether it was safe to give an individual the drug, bringing down the overall population’s contraction of the parasite.

The Death of the Independent

The local pub, a staple of what it means for many to live in Britain, has been on the decline for a while. The pandemic too, has seen to increased closures. In their place, Hipster Bars selling 1/3 pints, and the monolithic rise of the Wetherspoons. But even these novelties are under threat. Is the past time of greeting the landlord, asking for a pint of the brown stuff and bumping into familiar faces slowly coming to an end?
